Baptism is the sacrament that marks the beginning of the entire Christian life, and is the first of the sacraments of initiation. In Baptism we are freed from sin and become sons and daughters of God. In the sacrament we receive the very life of God, become part of the Body of Christ, become members of the Church, and are called to share in its mission,
Infants and Children:
Infants and children up to the age of seven years old may be baptized using the Rite of Baptism for Children. Please consult with the parish office for anyone that is seven years old or older that wishes to be baptized.
The norm for parents presenting children for baptism is that they consent the child to be baptized in the faith and are registered members of the parish.
The norm for Godparents is that they are at least sixteen years old, fully-initiated Catholic (baptized, confirmed and 1st Holy Communion), currently registered in a Catholic parish and living in harmony with the faith. Only one Godparent is required, but two may be chosen. If two are chosen, there must be one male (Godfather) and one female (Godmother).
It is strongly encouraged the parents requesting Baptism for their child attend a Baptism Preparation Class prior to scheduling and celebrating the baptism of each child. This class is required if this is your first child baptized in our parish. The class is normally scheduled weekdays at 7PM in the parish office. The class typically lasts 60-90 minutes. Please call the parish office to register for this class in advance. It is preferred that parents attend this class prior to the birth of their child.
Sunday during any Mass after the 2:30 pm Mass and Saturday after 10:30 am (Please schedule in advance with the parish office)
A $50 donation to help cover costs of supplies is appreciated. Please make checks payable to the Medhane Alem Catholic Church.
